Garden to Table

Garden to Table Trust’s food education programme is in more than 200 schools and kura around Aotearoa. Each week, thousands of children are getting their hands dirty and learning how to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal food.

Sessions are curriculum-integrated, so they support academic learning, and provide real-world learning for life. The action-packed programme is centered on growing and cooking skills, and builds much broader awareness of individual and collective health, well-being and caring for the environment. Tamariki observe changing seasons and experience the full food cycle.

Garden to Table sessions usually last 90 minutes, with half the class working in the garden and half working in the kitchen for the first hour. The groups come together to share the kai for the last 30 minutes.

The Trust provides training and a bountiful supply of resources to support educators throughout Aotearoa. The annual membership fee for schools and kura is subsidised with fundraising by the Trust.
