Focus Group Event

We recently hosted a focus group with community members to better understand local soil health knowledge and identify what resources would be most valuable for Christchurch residents. Participants shared their experiences with home gardening, composting practices, and the challenges they face in maintaining healthy soil.

Key insights from the session revealed that while participants were enthusiastic about soil health, common barriers include limited space, time constraints, and difficulty accessing locally-relevant information. The group emphasized strong interest in interactive learning tools, area-specific guidance for different parts of Christchurch, and opportunities to connect with other gardeners through forums and community discussions.

Participants particularly valued the integration of Māori soil knowledge and expressed desire for hands-on workshops, seasonal gardening tips, and practical resources like composting guidance. Their feedback is directly shaping the development of this website to ensure it meets the real needs of our local community.

This focus group represents the first step in our community-centered approach to soil health education in Christchurch.
